A Guide to Choosing Reliable Chinese Generator Brands

Selecting a Chinese-made generator can be a daunting task, especially if you're not familiar with the Chinese generator market. The lack of knowledge can lead you to inadvertently purchase a poor-quality product. In this article, I will introduce you to reliable generators suitable for heavy-duty use and discuss budget-friendly brands that are more suitable for standby purposes.

Voltgent are exported all over the world and different industries with quality first. Our belief is to provide our customers with more and better high value-added products. Let's create a better future together.

When it comes to diesel generators, some are intended solely for emergency use and may run less than one hundred hours a year. Because of this, some sellers take the risk of selling poor-quality products without facing significant repercussions. After reading this article, you'll gain comprehensive knowledge about reputable Chinese brands and how to avoid the pitfalls of substandard products.

In this article, I will introduce you to the brands that are generally considered the best and most reliable in the Chinese local market.

1. Weichai

Weichai is one of the top three diesel engine manufacturers in China, consistently striving to enhance their engine performance. They have made significant advancements in engine efficiency. Initially, Weichai collaborated with Deutz, and more recently, they acquired Baudouin. This merging of technologies has undoubtedly propelled Weichai engines to a new level of excellence.

2. SDEC

SDEC is one of the top three diesel engine manufacturers in China, and it is one of the brands I highly recommend. As a state-owned enterprise with decades of experience in engine manufacturing, SDEC produces engines comparable to Cummins' QSB, and 8.3 and 8.9 L series models. Their engines are known for their reliable quality, good performance, and competitive pricing.

3. Yuchai

Yuchai: Yuchai is a prominent Chinese manufacturer of diesel engines and generators. They offer a wide range of products suitable for various applications, including standby, prime, and continuous power generation.

Yuchai one of the top three diesel engine manufacturers in China, has large range of power from 20kVA to kVA with reliable quality.

4. FAW

FAWDE: FAWDE (First Automobile Works Diesel Engine) is a leading Chinese manufacturer of diesel engines and generator sets. FAWDE generators are known for their efficiency, low emissions, and reliable power generation.

As one of the oldest engine manufacturers, their engine is widely used in FAW brand truck, there is no doubt their has very reliable performance

5. Quanchai

Anhui Quanchai Engine Co., Ltd., commonly known as Quanchai, is a leading engine manufacturer based in China. Founded in , Quanchai has grown into a renowned company known for its advanced engine technology, reliable performance, and extensive product range. Power from 10kAV to 40kVA, it hs very excellent and cost-effective, if you looking for small capacity generator, Quanchai definitely is the best choice.

Their engines are widely used in construction machinery, with 500,000 engines sold each year.

In conclusion:

For small-capacity generators (under 100kVA): Quanchai,  and SDEC are excellent choices due to their reliability and cost-effectiveness.

For medium capacity generators (100kVA to 800kVA): SDEC stands out as the best option, offering robust performance and competitive pricing.

For large-capacity generators: We highly recommend Weichai and Yuchai. These brands are known for their durability, efficiency, and high-quality engineering.

Following, let move to the generator which suits to emergency purposes.

1. Kofo

Actually, Kofo is considered the best among the lower-quality brands, with relatively better quality than brands like Ricardo and Qianneng. However, Kofo engines are more suitable for standby purposes. Many buyers are attracted by the low price but end up using them for heavy-duty purposes, which is not advisable. You get what you pay for. If you plan to use the generator frequently, I recommend choosing engines from other Chinese state-owned manufacturers.

2. Ricardo

When it comes to Ricardo, the only adjective that comes to mind is chaotic. Many unreliable engine manufacturers market Ricardo engines, and some engines don't even deliver the advertised power. When buying a Ricardo generator, it's crucial to compare the engine models and inquire about the actual capacity. It helps if you are a professional machinist, as this expertise will enable you to handle any potential quality issues in the future......

I hope the above information helps you in choosing a reliable Chinese generator brand. If you are looking for high-quality generator sets, trust our team. Feel free to contact us at:

New Class Guideline for installation of containerised generator sets

Whether you are a ship manager in need of temporary additional or replacement power, or a supplier to the maritime industry renting out containerised generator sets, we recommend you acquaint yourself with the content of the new Class Guideline to ensure a smooth installation of a containerised generator set.

Relevant for owners/ managers, design offices, shipyards, suppliers and flag states.

DNV frequently receives questions related to the installation of containeriszed generator sets (CGSs), sometimes referred to as “powerpacks”. Many of these questions were already answered in a technical and regulatory news, number 11/. That news has now been superseded by a new Class Guideline, CG-, available on the DNV website – see link below.

CG- gives a more comprehensive overview of the requirements for installation than the referred news from . Furthermore, it does not only cover the use of a CGS in case of damage to an auxiliary generator, but also the use of a CGS in case of damage to the emergency generator and the use of a CGS as a temporary additional source of power, for example for additional reefer cargo or seismic equipment.

By addressing the issue in a Class Guideline, we are making it more convenient for managers and suppliers to have access to the latest information. In addition, it will be easier for DNV to update the document with any changes to requirements or recommendations.

Recommendations

We recommend relevant parties read the new Class Guideline so that when the need for a temporary power supply arises, you know what to look for or, alternatively, know what to offer.
