Product Quality Questions

Product quality questions are related to the window quality assurance, including frame, glass, hardware and safety. 

1. What brand or certification does the uPVC profile have?

Ask if it’s from a reputable manufacturer and check if it follows ISO or EN standards. These standards ensure the uPVC windows are resistant to sun, rain and time. 

2. What is the wall thickness of the uPVC frame?

Make sure the thickness is above 2.5 mm, as it is considered durable. Thinner walls often wrap, sag, or crack over time.

3. Is there steel reinforcement inside the frame?

If the window frame has a galvanised steel inside, it gives structure and strength. Without it. Even the best-looking windows can fail in a couple of years. 

4. What kind of glass is used?

Ask if it’s toughened glass or laminated glass. Double glazing is even better for insulation and noise. 

5. Are the locks, handles, and rollers from a known brand?

No-brand hardware costs less, but does not last long. It usually rusts or breaks soon. So, ask for hardware with a warranty. 

6. Is the window UV-resistant and weatherproof?

Poor-quality uPVC windows turn yellow or brittle in the hot Indian summer. Make sure the material is tested for tropical weather. 

7. Are there colour and finish options available?

If you are choosing laminated finishes, like wood grain or matte colours, confirm if they are scratch-resistant and fade-proof. 

8. Is the frame lead-free or eco-friendly?

Some uPVC profiles contain lead or other toxins. Ask if the brand is certified as lead-free and RoHS compliant, which makes it safe for homes with kids and elders. 

9. Are the profiles multi-chambered?

More chambers in the frame = better insulation and structural strength. 

10. What kind of mess or grills are available?

If you need insect screens or security grills, check if they come integrated or need to be added separately.

11. Are your installers outsourced or from your own company?

Installation standards matter just as much as the product. Trained installers will check for level, sealing, and water slope.

12. Will you provide a slope for water drainage?

If there’s no proper slope, rainwater will collect on the sill and seep inside. Ask if drain holes and slopes are included in the design. 

13. What types of sealing do you use?

Always look for EPDM gaskets, as they last longer and are resistant to cracking. Do not prefer ordinary sealants, like silicone, because they peel over time. 

14. Is the beading internal or external?

Internal beading is safer because the glass cannot be removed from the outside.

15. Will you check for air and water leaks after installation?

Make sure the vendors run basic checks like water spray or air pressure tests to make sure sealing is done properly.

16. How is the window anchored to the wall?

Some vendors skip using proper anchors or spacers. This can lead to loose frames over time. Ask if mechanical screws and proper shims are used. 

Vendor & After-Sales Questions

Vendor and after-sales questions will help judge the vendor’s reliability and support. 

17. What is the warranty on both the frame and hardware?

Ideally, you should get at least 10 years on the frame and 1 to 2 years on locks, rollers and handles. Make sure you get the guarantee card in writing from the company. 

18. Will you provide written specifications and a quote?

Ask for a document that clearly states thickness, hardware brand, glass type, sealing method and number of locks and handles. 

19. Do you have real customer references or site photos?

Ask the vendor to share photos or client feedback. It’s one of the easiest ways to verify their work.

20. Who do I contact in case of service issues later?

Make sure they have a dedicated service contact to avoid irregular responses later.

Flush casements windows are a timeless, elegant window solution, characterised by sleek window lines that fit flush into the window frame, unlike stormproof windows that overlap in the frame. When closed the window sash is level with the outer frame creating smooth and even external contours.
